FUR CARE
Your fur, shearling or leather garment,
and your specialty outerwear are valuable and deserve
professional fur care.
• Allow your Fur coat or other garments proper space in
your closet. Never keep your fur coat or other valuable
coat in a plastic bag. IF you wish to keep it covered,
use a cotton cloth bag. Your fur requires proper air
circulation; Use a cotton cloth bag when traveling or
transporting your fur to and from cold storage. The
smell of both moth and cedar balls often adhere to fur
and create unpleasant odors.
• Proper cleaning and conditioning of your fur coat and
other garments will often remove such and most other
unwanted odors.
• Do not sit for a prolonged time on your fur, shearling
or leather coat as this may lead to premature wear.
• Refrain from excessive use of purse straps and other
shoulder straps while wearing your fur, shearling,
leather and other fur type outerwear, as this too will
lead to premature wear.
• If your fur coat gets wet, shake it off and let it dry
naturally. DO NOT USE HEAT!!! Using heat will cause both
fur and leather to dry out. If your fur item gets soaked
it needs special attention by a qualified master
furrier.
• Be sure to have proper annual care including cleaning,
conditioning, tightening of buttons, closures and lining
and the mending of early tears - some will be invisible
to you. Be sure to have your fur garment evaluated free
of charge – in order to avoid unseen damages worsening
and becoming costly or even irreparable to you.
• Conditioning your fur garment replenishes essential
oils necessary for the longevity of your fur..
• Your fur, leather, shearling and fine outerwear will
provide you years of enjoyable wear when they are
professionally conditioned and stored.
• Each spring store your garments in a temperature
controlled, moth controlled, moisture controlled vault.
Keep your garments away from heat and pests as both can
created devastating damage.

Repairs
Your fur is an
expensive investment. Even fur that has been
gifted is expensive to replace. Bring your
garment for repair as soon as you notice a
slight rip, tear or other sign of excessive
wear. Letting a rip go can become a very costly
mistake. Visit us at either of our two locations
for a free estimate.
We have been in business for over 90 years and
are experts in fur design, remodel and repair.
Our professional furriers will mend any fur,
from the smallest tear to replacement of
complete sections, assuring that your valuable
garment is handled with the integrity and
respect equal to our own.
The smallest tear can lead to the costly
replacement of a complete pelt or section if not
attended to quickly and properly. A minor tuck
or shortening can remove minor wear from fur
cuffs, pockets and hemlines. Salt can also be
dealt with in this manner. Be sure to have your
fur coat thoroughly inspected and maintained
annually in the spring. |

Cleaning
Your furs should be cleaned and
processed once a year to maintain their luster
and preserve the oils in the skins. We use a
professional gentle fur tumbling process with
special cleaning solutions. The garment is then
glazed to bring out the sheen and make it soft
and supple. NEVER attempt to clean a fur garment
at home or use a commercial dry cleaner or
solvent.
After a harsh winter, solvents,
salt, dust, dirt and other destructive agents
must be gently removed from your fur, shearling
and other fur garments.
Our processes will help preserve
them, extending their life span and assuring you
years of enjoyment. Our processes which include:
expert inspection and fur cleaning, the proper
removing of stains from linings, cleaning and
glazing of your garment will help preserve your
garments for years to come.
We invite you to bring your
garments in for a free inspection or quote for
remodel.

Cold Storage
Furs must be stored in a
climate controlled, moisture controlled, moth
controlled storage vault in order to best
protect the animal skins from drying out as well
as to protect them from heat damage and insects.
The time to store and service your valuable fur,
shearling or fur trimmed garment is at the start
of every spring. Professional storage during
summer months is most important in extending the
longevity of your furs.
If a fur is not stored in a
professional vault the hair itself may appear to
be okay, but the natural oils of the skin will
begin to dry out causing the fur to easily rip
or tear at the seams. Fur is expensive. A small
investment in annual cleaning and storage can
help to extend the life of your fur garment.
Keeping fur at home during the summer could be a
very costly mistake. Both
standard and cedar closets are not suitable for
storage. Caution! The smell from the use of
cedar and mothballs will adhere to fur, leathers
and wool, creating lasting unpleasant odors. |

I had been
walking around with an image of a fur coat in my
mind for years, but I could not find the coat
anywhere! I just kept hoping for a solution. I
knew what I wanted and I was not willing to
settle. In the summer, I was on vacation in
Chicago. That is when we met Jay Garber and his
designer, Michelle. Together, they worked with me
to design this exact coat of my dreams. I want to
thank them both for this amazing experience. I
received the coat and it is even better than I had
ever imagined! Thank you S GARBER FURS! I will
be seeing you again! You have made me one very
happy customer! |
